As we pray this month for your globalLead ministry around the globe, I am reminded that every country has unique political leadership and circumstances. In the last few months, two of our offices have requested prayer for election times, and we know, in many other countries, the times when power changes hands can be most tumultuous.
We find ourselves wondering whether these leaders will be loved by the people and whether they will be loved for the right reasons, whether their leadership will enable or inhibit Gospel growth, whether their power will be used for good or evil, whether their “rule” will last long enough for it to even make a difference.
The recent death of the long-reigning Queen Elizabeth II reminds us that our leaders are temporary, but we serve a God who is eternal. His power remains in His hand, regardless of the collapse of nations or the roaring of the leaders in them. Here, we have a leader and King who is good, kind, and just. Here, we have a leader who cannot be intimidated or overthrown. Here, we have a God who hears us, loves us, teaches us, and will reign forever. And to His incorruptible, ageless throne room we, His children, come with confidence.
As you pray this month reflect on the following verses lifting up God and His great attributes and care for all of us, even (or maybe especially) when the reign of others ends:
3 Put not your trust in princes,
in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
4 When his breath departs, he returns to the earth;
on that very day, his plans perish.
5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord his God,
6 who made heaven and earth,
the sea, and all that is in them, …
10 The Lord will reign forever,
your God, O Zion, to all generations.
Praise the Lord!
